Short version: we don't ask for your name or email, we don't track you, and we don't sell anything about you.
At a glance
This covers the Game Assistant iPhone app and this website. Here's everything the app collects, in one table.
| What | Why | Linked to you? | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Questions you type into Ask | To answer them, and to spot questions we can't answer yet so we can add them | No | Until they're no longer useful for improving answers |
| Anonymous app ID | Created on first launch so we can apply fair-use limits to Ask | No — it isn't tied to your name, email or Apple ID | While you use the app, or until you ask us to delete it |
| Push token and alert choices (only if you turn alerts on) | To send the alerts you picked: launch day, and big confirmed news if you want it | No | Until you turn alerts off, or Apple tells us the token is no longer valid |
That's the full list. There are no accounts, so we never ask for your name, email address or phone number. We don't track you across other apps or websites, we don't show adverts, and we don't sell or share your data for marketing.
What the app collects
Your questions
When you use Ask, the question you type is sent to our server so we can find the best answer. We keep questions so we can see what people are asking and write answers for the ones we couldn't handle. Questions are stored with your anonymous app ID, never with your name or contact details. Please don't type personal information into Ask.
An anonymous app ID
The first time you open the app it signs in anonymously and gets a random ID. We use it to apply fair-use limits to Ask and to keep the service working. It doesn't identify you, and it isn't shared with anyone for advertising.
Alerts (optional)
Alerts are off until you tap a button to turn them on, and iOS asks your permission first. If you say yes, we store the push token Apple gives your device and the alert topics you chose, so we can send those alerts and nothing else. Turn them off any time in the app's More tab or in iOS Settings.
Stored on your phone only
The app saves recent news and facts on your device so it works offline. That copy stays on your phone and is removed when you delete the app.
This website
This site doesn't use cookies, analytics or tracking, which is why there's no cookie banner. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (for example IP address, browser type and the page requested) for a short time to keep the site secure and running.
Who processes it
We use a small number of providers to run the service. They process data only on our instructions.
- Supabase — database and app back end. App data is stored in the EU (Ireland).
- Apple Push Notification service — delivers alerts to your device, if you've turned them on.
- Vercel — hosts this website.
Where a provider processes data outside the UK, it does so under safeguards recognised by UK data protection law, such as the UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Addendum.
Our legal basis
Under UK GDPR we rely on legitimate interests to answer your questions, improve our answers and prevent abuse of the service, and on your consent for alerts. You can withdraw consent at any time by turning alerts off.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct or delete your data, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to data portability. To use any of these rights, email support@gameassistant.co.uk.
Because there's no account, we can only find your data by your app ID. You'll find it in the app under More → Disclaimer. Please include it in your email.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Children
Game Assistant isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or why, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
